NOT official...

The official start date apparently was not very official. We came home last night after work and nothing had been touched.

Jerome called the general contractor; who happens to be on vacation - he directed us to his "partner" Jason - Jason said that he and the builder were discussing over the weekend that the project would need to be pushed off a day or two - would have been nice if we had been informed!

So, we don't know right now if the garage is being demo'd now or tomorrow or next week or...

NOT a great start.

official start date...

So, the garage project will begin on Tuesday with the demolition of the roof and some boulder moving.

We had to remove all our bushes and roses in that area so that they will be able to move the boulders. I'm not sure why it is that when I tell contractors that I want to save my plants they are always so surprised. I guess they like the whole idea behind demoing.

Here's a pic of what that boulder area looked like when we moved in, what it looked like before the plant removal and then what it looks like now.

In the middle of all of this, we are getting ready for Jerome's brother Herve and his girlfriend Nadia to arrive on Sunday evening. Gotta get the place looking halfway decent...but instead, I'm posting :).

justin update...

This photo was just send to me by Justin's dad who got to go to the AIT graduation. Picture was taken with an iPhone (a bit blurry).

Justin's next stop is back to Falls Church, VA to do some recruiting duty, then he will have to report to Ft. Bragg, NC by August 15th; his new duty station.

a night out with friends...

Went out last night with a couple of couples to see a Murder Mystery at Andiamo Celebrity Showroom; “Who Wants to Murder a Millionaire?”.

I see these friends about once a year, and would like to see them a bit more, but as I get older, I have less time to just visit. I’ve got places to go and…well, you get the gist.

The Dinner Theater wasn’t what I think any of us were expecting. It was just a banquet hall with round tables and the actors did their improv around all of us.

It was cute, but hardly fantastic.

Being the one that plans these events, I feel a bit responsible that a good time was had by all. I can’t determine if this was the case.

We sat with a couple of ladies that we didn’t know, which turned out to be a good thing because they figured out “who done it” way before the rest of us did…oh and filled out the little piece of paper prior to the whole table deliberating. This was a bit ballsy of them I thought, but as it turns out – their guess was correct and the table won a bunch of tickets to Beatlemania slotted for September 11. AND our table was the ONLY table that guessed the correct person was the “murderer”. Crazy.

still waiting...

We are supposed to get word from the village today about the permit drawings that were submitted last week.

We are excited and are anticipating this project. So excited that Jerome started demoing on his own!!!
Just kiddin…The other night we still needed to get some items out of the “attic” part of the garage. However we are becoming more and more leery of the structural safety of the place. So, instead of climbing up a ladder into the attic to lower down these heavy items, I told Jerome to just cut the vent hole a bit bigger and we can transfer the items through the hole.

The garage is basically cleaned out – and we’ve moved some plants – we’re just waiting for our general contractor to come over and tell us what else we need to move.

at the office...

The police just paid a visit to our little office.

I guess the silent alarm was going off in the plastics building we are attached to - they are on shut-down right now.

So, the cops meandered into our office through a shared door, went into the kitchen and helped themselves to a couple of babybels and a couple of pops.

It wasn't until a co-worker heard some commotion and looked over and saw them that they seemed startled - I guess they didn't think anyone was in the building.

Anyway, they spoke to Tim and got all our information and then told us that they helped themselves to the goodies in the kitchen.

Wow! Someone call the police! I've been robbed…oh, no wait…

vintage knobs...

I am always trying to figure out new ways to use the decorations I already have.

I had removed the pine cones (since that is more of a fall/winter thing) and was thinking "what other type of items could fit in the vases".

So this is what I came up with.
I purchased these vintage door knobs a couple of years ago on eBay. The plan was to replace all the newer knobs that were on all the doors in the house with these vintage ones. I had given the job over to my husband and he eventually told me that it just wouldn't work. So, we ended up buying a bunch of Baldwin oil rubbed bronze knobs, which look really nice - and everything matches (which I like).

So, I had all these vintage knobs. I had originally put them all in an old wooden box that I got from my cousin Wendy - she was throwing it away. And voila! I thought they displayed very nicely.

I still have most in the old box, but I could spare a few for my vases.
I like it.
